Jack Frost-one of my favourite Christmas films now. I had never seen it before and had wanted to watch it which my sister remembered and bought it for me consequentially. It has such a classic and innocent feel to it. Sure there are still innocent and decent films now but the feel here is so different. Literally, from the beginning I could tell it was the type of film I would enjoy. Starring Michal Keaton years later after he had portrayed Batman for Tim Burton (and I did like Michael's Batman), a sad tragedy ensues which might make you wonder why I call this a family film. Well, tragedy happens in life and perhaps we could run the film world alongside ours when we say "It is how you deal with it that matters." Of course films are in our world just like the internet is, something many fail to grasp still but the point is it is handled well and is actually what the rest of the film is based upon-The young boys dad dying! Yes "Rest of the film." Another reason I like it. In how I would of directed this film as well, they make sure to show enough BEFORe tragedy strikes, to show the family joys, family problems even, emotion and anger and all of this is addressed again later on when things are different. You might get a bit of a shock when you see Jack's musician based friend, well if you like 1990's shows anyway. He was in The Thin Blue Line as a policeman and although he was informal generally he was naturally in a more serious role and so it was good to see that and how the actor did as in more modern times I think he tends to find himself in more comedic roles again.
